Social Ministry

The congregation supports various special appeals throughout the year. Area families in need are selected each Christmas to receive gifts. World Hunger is the focus of our Lenten appeal. An offering of letters for Bread for the World supports local or national social issues.

Shepherd of the Bay is beginning to develop a parish nurse program and a Stephen Ministry with the hope of raising the level of care giving within our congregation and community.

Women of the congregation support social ministry through their quilt making and other activities organized by Lutheran World Relief.

The youth of the congregation work with Reformation Lutheran Church, our inner-city partner congregation in Milwaukee. They also raise money for World Hunger and provide Christmas gifts for needy children abroad.

Proceeds from our Third World Marketplace sales have supported Maya Works, the SERRV Earthquake Fund, Lutheran World Relief's emergency fund, and Reformation Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.

The Marketplace is staffed by loyal and supportive committee members who organize and run the sales. Church staff, members of the congregation and community, and Door County visitors all contribute to the Marketplace's success.
